IND vs NZ ODI preparations are underway as India are set to announce their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand either on January 3 or January 4, media reports suggest. The Indian team will assemble in Vadodara on January 7, with the series opener scheduled for January 11.
While the date of the squad announcement has not been officially revealed, a TOI report suggests the announcement will come on Saturday (January 3). The IND vs NZ ODI series will begin in Vadodara before moving to Rajkot for the second match on January 14. The third and final ODI will be played in Indore on January 18. The national selection committee, led by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar, is expected to hold an online meeting to finalise the squad.
Shubman Gill back as India’s ODI captain
The ODI leg of the IND vs NZ ODI series is expected to draw significant attention, with senior stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma likely to feature for the first time since the ODI series against South Africa in December. India have already announced their squad for the five-match T20I series starting January 21, while New Zealand have named squads for both formats.
Recovered from a neck injury, skipper Shubman Gill is set to lead India in the IND vs NZ ODI series. However, vice-captain Shreyas Iyer’s return has been delayed as he continues rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.
Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah likely to be rested
In line with workload management, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah are likely to be rested for the IND vs NZ ODI series. With major ICC events approaching, the team management is focused on managing player fitness while testing bench strength.
The IND vs NZ 1st ODI series tickets were sold within a few minutes of them being up for sale online. A similar situation is expected for the sales of tickets for the second and the third ODIs in Rajkot and Indore respectively especially with Rohit and Kohli playing only the 50-overs format.
