Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are pulling off a stunning performance against South Africa at Ranchi’s JSCA International Stadium Complex. Kohli has hit his 52nd century and Rohit supported him with a master-class 50. While the two gave a spectacular show, Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen shared his views on a rumour going on social media about two Indian cricketing stars.
Peterson said if anyway the talks of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returning to test cricket is true, then the same must be taken very seriously. This was after people said that BCCI is said to have asked them to join the red ball cricket again.
‘Biggest stars in the game’
As the word spread on social media, Kevin Pietersen took to X and said it would be a big development if this happens, and opined that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, must play test cricket again.
“I don’t always believe what I read in the media or on social media. But, if it’s half true that both Virat and Rohit are considering playing Test cricket again, then it needs to be taken very very seriously,” Peterson said on Sunday.
“The survival of Test cricket is a hot topic of conversation and if the biggest stars in the game are wanting to play it again, they must play!” he added.
The Indian team performed abysmally recently as they lost against South Africa with a 2-0 whitewash on the home ground.
Will RoKo be back in test cricket?
As for the rumours, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has dismissed the said, adding that now such talks of Rohit and Virat returning to test cricket is on.
Both Rohit and Kohli announced their retirements in May earlier this year, ahead of the England tour. Both played their last series in Australia, where India lost the Border Gavaskar Trophy by 3-1.
One of the users commented on the post, “Test cricket doesn’t need saving, it needs its giants back. If Virat and Rohit return, it won’t be nostalgia, it’ll be a global reset. One tour, one series, and the whole world remembers why whites still matter more than trophies.”
“I know test is totally different from ODi’s but the way both of them played today shows, the result would’ve been so different if they were in test team against SA,” said another.
