Champions Trophy 2025: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the match officials for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, set to take place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from February 19 to March 9. The tournament, featuring eight teams, will be played across four iconic venues: Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi in Pakistan, along with Dubai in the UAE.
A distinguished panel of 12 umpires has been selected to officiate the prestigious tournament, with six officials making a return from the 2017 edition. Among them is Richard Kettleborough, who officiated the final of the previous Champions Trophy in the UK. Kettleborough, a veteran of 108 One Day Internationals (ODIs), will be joined by Chris Gaffaney, Kumar Dharmasena, Richard Illingworth, Paul Reiffel, and Rod Tucker, all of whom were part of the 2017 event.
Experienced Umpires for a High-Stakes Tournament
Kumar Dharmasena, known for his extensive officiating experience, will be making his mark yet again, having officiated 132 ODIs—an all-time record for a Sri Lankan umpire in the format. Kettleborough and Illingworth, who were in charge of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad, will bring their expertise to the tournament.
The full list of umpires also includes Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Ahsan Raza, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, Alex Wharf, and Joel Wilson, all of whom officiated at the 2023 World Cup in India.
Elite Panel of Match Referees
The panel of match referees will feature some of the most respected names in cricket officiating. David Boon, who officiated the 2017 Champions Trophy final, will be joined by Ranjan Madugalle, who officiated the 2013 final, and Andrew Pycroft, who also played a role in the 2017 edition.
ICC’s Commitment to Fair Play
Sean Easey, ICC Senior Manager – Umpires and Referees, emphasized the significance of appointing a high-quality officiating team for the tournament.
“We are pleased to announce this highly credentialed team of match officials for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. Their collective expertise and experience will be invaluable in ensuring the tournament runs smoothly,” Easey said.
“We always strive to appoint the most deserving officials for such prestigious events, and we are confident that this group will do an outstanding job in both Pakistan and the UAE. We wish them all the best for a memorable tournament,” he added.
With the return of the Champions Trophy after an eight-year hiatus, the role of the match officials will be critical in maintaining the tournament’s integrity and fair play. The 2025 edition promises intense competition among the world’s top teams, and the appointed officials will be tasked with ensuring a smooth and just contest.
