The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented strict measures limiting the presence of families and personal staff during cricket tours in response to India’s disappointing Test series loss against Australia. These restrictions are part of a 10-point policy aimed at fostering discipline and unity within the team. According to Dainik Jagran, the decision was influenced by head coach Gautam Gambhir, who has been pushing to end the “star culture” within the squad.

The report highlighted that certain players, including a wicketkeeper who travels with a personal chef and a star batter accompanied by security guards and a nanny, have set a precedent that the BCCI believes undermines team cohesion. A BCCI source emphasised that such practices could have a negative impact on the team’s discipline.

Previously, the BCCI allowed players’ families to accompany them for a maximum of two weeks on overseas tours. Under the new policy, any personal staff or extended family presence, along with commercial commitments, must receive prior approval from the Chairman of the Selection Committee and the Head Coach. Non-compliance could result in disciplinary action.

The policy further states that violations could lead to serious consequences, including suspension from BCCI tournaments such as the Indian Premier League and deductions from players’ retainers or match fees. These measures underscore the Board’s commitment to restoring discipline and professionalism within the Indian cricket team.
