The BCCI announced India’s squad for the first Test against Bangladesh on Sunday, with bowler Yash Dayal earning his maiden call-up.

The team, led by Rohit Sharma, will play Bangladesh in a two-match Test series, followed by a three-match T20I series. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant returns to the Test squad, and Jasprit Bumrah is also set to feature. Virat Kohli, who missed the home Test series against England earlier this year, has rejoined the squad as well.

However, Mohammed Shami has been excluded, despite earlier comments from Ajit Agarkar, chairman of selectors, suggesting the pacer was targeting a comeback for the first Test.

The series opener will take place in Chennai on September 19, with the second Test set for Kanpur on September 27.

India enters the series after an ODI loss to Sri Lanka, while Bangladesh comes in with momentum, having recently defeated Pakistan in a Test series.

After the Bangladesh series, India will host New Zealand for a three-match Test series starting on October 16. Following that, India will head to Australia for a much-anticipated five-match Test series.

Early next year, India is scheduled to host England for five T20Is and three ODIs in January and February 2025, following their earlier Test series.
