The Big Bash League (BBL) is set to return with another season of Australia’s premier T20 competition promising fast-paced action, packed stadiums and a strong overseas player presence that keeps Indian fans hooked every winter.

Over the years, the BBL has built a steady following in India, thanks to its IST friendly schedule, aggressive batting displays and the participation of several players well known to Indian cricket followers.

The high-octane Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 season began two days back on Sunday, December 14, with a total of 44 matches scheduled across the tournament. 

Eight teams spanning across the country are set to participate in the tournament in a bid to claim the coveted trophy. The participating teams include Hobart Hurricanes, Perth Scorchers, Brisbane Heat, Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder, Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars.

Big players in the mix

One of the most socially acclaimed cricketers from Pakistan, Babar Azam is set to feature for the Sydney Sixers in the season opener, while his compatriots Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi will go head-to-head when the Melbourne Renegades host the Brisbane Heat in Geelong.

Several high profile cricketers from Australia including Glenn Maxwell, David Warner, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith are also set to compete in the tournament. The Melbourne Stars remain the only team yet to win the tournament in BBL history.
