Ahmedabad to host 2030 Commonwealth Games

“India will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad – a proud moment for Bharat and Gujarat,” Jaishankar wrote on X.

He stressed, “It is a testament to PM Narendra Modi’s vision of world-class infrastructure and nurturing sporting talent.”

Centenary edition to be held in Ahmedabad

Earlier, Commonwealth Sport, in a statement, recommended Ahmedabad – Gujarat’s largest city – as the “proposed host”. The 2030 Commonwealth Games will mark the 100th anniversary of the first edition, which took place in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930.

“The Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport has today confirmed that it will recommend Amdavad, India, as the proposed host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games,” stated a press release from Commonwealth Sport.

“Amdavad (also known as Ahmedabad, in the Indian state of Gujarat), will now be put forward to the full Commonwealth Sport membership, with the final decision taking place at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow on 26 November,” it added. India had hosted the 2010 edition in New Delhi.

With this announcement, Ahmedabad will now be put forward for full Commonwealth Sport membership, with the final decision to be made at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26 this year.

Under the “Games Reset” principles, both India and Nigeria submitted compelling proposals to host the Games.
