Due to the rainy weather conditions in Greater Noida, the fourth day of the one-off test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was called off on Thursday and the weather today is likely to lead to the same.

On September 14, the toss was set for 9 am, but persistent rain once again disrupted plans, forcing match officials to cancel play for the fourth consecutive day.

“The fourth day of the only Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand teams is also not going to be played due to continued rainfall,” the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had said, adding an assessment of the stadium would be made today (September 13) post which a decision would be made.

Afghanistan are facing New Zealand in a Test match for the first time, though the game is not part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Not a single ball bowled

Not a single ball has been bowled in the game so far, with a wet outfield halting any play on the first two days. This has raised serious concerns about the venue’s readiness to host the match. Only seven Test matches in history have been abandoned without a single ball being bowled, the most recent instance being the 1998 clash between New Zealand and India in Dunedin.

Afghanistan, serving as the hosts, had selected the venue for logistical reasons. This marks their 10th Test match since gaining Test status from the ICC in 2017.
