The PM Awas Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana saw renewed push as ‘100 days of Modi 3.0’ report card outlined that the government has laid a strong foundation for the creation of a ‘developed India’. Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted that the PM Modi-led Cabinet cleared 3 crore additional houses under the scheme. Of the 3 crore houses, two crore will be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) and one crore under the PMAY-Urban.
“In the last 10 years, Modiji has taken the country to new heights and has also created new dimensions of good governance and poor welfare. The 100 days of Modi 3.0 have laid a strong foundation for the creation of a ‘developed India’,” Shah said in a post on X.
“Whether it is the launch of projects worth approximately Rs 15 lakh crore in the first 100 days, approval of three crore additional houses under the housing scheme, projects worth Rs 3 lakh crore for creating world-class infrastructure or the release of the 17th installment of the Kisan Samman Nidhi, these 100 days of Modi 3.0 have been days of a wonderful coordination of development and poor welfare by involving every section,” he added.
The Centre on August 10 had given its nod for three crore additional houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY). Of the 3 crore houses, two crore will be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) and one crore under the PMAY-Urban.
PM Modi releases PMAY installments
Meanwhile, On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually released the first instalment of Rs 2,044 crore to 5.11 lakh beneficiaries in Chhattisgarh for the construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G). The PM transferred the first instalment of Rs 2,044 crore directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
Two days earlier, PM Modi had virtually issued sanction letters to 32,000 beneficiaries under the PMAY-G in Jharkhand and released the first installment of Rs 32 crore for house construction on Sunday. He also virtually handed over keys to 46,000 PMAY-G beneficiaries nationwide.
PM AWAS Yojana – Explained
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a flagship housing initiative aimed at providing affordable housing to the urban and rural poor. Launched in 2015, PMAY Urban focuses on creating housing for the economically weaker sections in cities, facilitating access to basic amenities.
Meanwhile, PMAY Gramin targets rural households, ensuring that they have safe and secure homes. Both schemes offer financial assistance, with benefits such as subsidies on home loans.
The initiative aims to meet the goal of “Housing for All” by 2022, promoting inclusive development and improving the living standards of millions across India.
Allocations in Budget FY25 for PM Awas Yojana scheme
Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY)-Urban, the Budget Estimates for FY25 stood at Rs 30,171 crore, up from Rs 25,103 crore in FY24.
The actual Budget for FY23 stood at Rs 28653 crore and the revised estimates for FY24 stood at Rs 22,103 crore.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY)- Rural, the Budget Estimates for FY25 stood at Rs 54500 crore, a slight increase from FY24 where allocation was Rs 54487 crore. The Revised Estimates stood at Rs 32000 crore, while Rs 44962 crore was spent in FY23.
What has been the progress so far under PMAY-Urban?
Under the PMAY-Urban, a total of 118.64 lakh houses have been sanctioned, as of data available on the official website of PMAY-U. A total of 115.21 lakh houses have been grounded and 86.68 lakh houses have been completed.
Rs 16,64,707 crore of central assistance has been released and Rs 8.07 lakh crore of total investment has been made.
As of September 17, Maharashtra has received the highest investment of Rs 1,74,390.13 crore, followed by Gujarat with Rs 1,05,253.04 crore and Andhra Pradesh with Rs 91,805.73 crore investment. Delhi received the highest investment among the Union Territories with Rs 5,696.05 crore investment.
What has been the progress so far under PMAY-Rural?
According to data provided by the official website of PMAY-Grameen, 3,11,79,308 houses have been sanctioned and 2,65,74,256 houses have been completed.
Rs 3,34,030.8 crore has been transferred, with Madhya Pradesh receiving the highest investment under the PMAY-G with Rs 45533.5 crore investment, followed by Bihar with Rs 45,047.2 crore transferred.
As of September 18, in FY2017, 40,87,768 houses have been completed against the sanctions, which has risen to Rs 2,65,74,256 houses that have been completed till now.
