Various bar owners from Kerala have challenged the Kerala High Court’s order that upheld the state government’s decision to close down all bars except those in five-star hotels.
A batch of petitions including one by Kerala Classified Hotels & Resorts Association have challenged the Kerala government’s order cancelling the bar licenses of hotels below the category of five star. Seeking a direction to the state government to renew liquor licences, they want to reinstate an order by a single-judge bench of the high court that had allowed four-star bars and heritage bars to operate along with the five-star ones.
Hoteliers submitted that the state government’s liquor policy had no grounds.
