PAN Card: How to apply?
There are two ways to apply for a PAN card – through the online application process and the offline mode.
Here’s how to apply for PAN online:
- Visit NSDL or UTIITSL website.
- Select ‘New PAN’ and fill out form 49A.
- Pay the processing fee online or via demand draft.
- Submit the form and receive acknowledgment slip with a 15-digit number.
- E-sign using Aadhaar OTP or send documents to the NSDL/UTIITSL office within 15 days.
- PAN verification is conducted, and the card is sent to the provided address within 15 days.

- Download form 49A from the NSDL or UTIITSL website or collect from agents/offices.
- Fill out the form, attach supporting documents, and submit it with the processing fee.
- PAN card will be dispatched to the provided address within 15 working days.
PAN Card Eligibility
Eligibility Criteria for Indian Citizens:
1. Individual: Indian citizens applying for a PAN card must provide valid identity proof, address proof, and date of birth proof.
2. Hindu Undivided Families (HUF): The head of the HUF can apply for a PAN card, providing proof of identity, address, date of birth, and details of all coparceners.
3. Minors: Parents can apply for a PAN card on behalf of minors, submitting necessary documents.
4. Mentally Retarded Individuals: Representatives can apply for a PAN card on behalf of mentally retarded individuals.
5. Partnership Firms: PAN card application for partnership firms requires a copy of the Certificate of Registration or Partnership Deed.
6. Limited Liability Partnership (LLP): LLPs must submit a copy of the Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of LLPs.
7. Trusts: Trusts need to provide a trust deed and certificate of Registration number issued by the Charity Commissioner.
8. Companies: Companies applying for a PAN card must furnish a copy of the Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of Companies.
9. Local Authorities: Local authorities require a copy of the agreement for PAN card application.
10. Association of Persons: Registered associations need to submit a copy of their registration certificate.
11. Artificial Judicial Persons: PAN card application for artificial judicial persons necessitates a registration certificate from the government establishing identity and address.
Eligibility Criteria for Foreign Citizens/Entities:
Foreign citizens/entities can apply using Form 49AA and must submit the following:
A. Foreign Citizens/Individuals:
– Proof of Identity: Passport/PIO card/OCI card, or TIN/CIN attested by relevant authorities.
– Proof of Address: Passport/PIO/OCI, TIN/CIN attested by relevant authorities, bank account statement, NRE bank account statement, residence status certificate or permit, visa, contract, or letter of appointment from an Indian company.
B. Foreign Entities:
– A photocopy of the Registration certificate issued by the country where the entities are situated, attested by relevant authorities.
– A copy of the Registration Certificate issued in India or approval obtained from Indian authorities.
PAN Card: How to update online?
To update your PAN card online via the NSDL e-Gov portal:
1. Visit the NSDL e-Gov website.
2. Select ‘PAN’ under the ‘Services’ tab.
3. Click on ‘Apply’ under the ‘Change/Correction in PAN Data’ section.
4. Fill out the Online PAN Application form.
5. Make the payment and complete the KYC process.
6. Download the acknowledgment form using your date of birth (DD/MM/YYYY) as the password.
To update your PAN card on the UTIITSL portal:
1. Visit the UTIITSL website.
2. Click ‘Click to Apply’ under the ‘Change/Correction in PAN Card’ tab.
3. Select ‘Apply for Change/Correction in PAN card details’.
4. Enter PAN number, select the mode of document submission, and submit the form.
5. Provide personal details, PAN number verification, upload required documents, and submit.
