On September 26, 2025, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) crossed into uncharted territory, hitting new all-time highs, breaking past the 161,000 mark. The KSE-100 index climbed as high as 161,924 points, a 1.65%  jump from the previous session. This surge can be attributed to US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Trump meets Pakistan PM

It is worth remembering that only a year ago the KSE-100 was nearly half its current level. A market that is volatile does not climb without fuel. The official meeting has influenced the Pakistan Stock market positively.

US President Donald Trump hosted Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White Housefor talks on bilateral relations and regional issues, the Pakistan government said.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Sharif used the meeting to encourage investment from American companies in several Pakistani sectors, highlighting agriculture, technology, mining and energy as priority areas.

“The Prime Minister expressed the confidence that under President Trump’s leadership, the Pakistan-US partnership would be further strengthened to the mutual benefit of both countries,” the statement said, as per a report by Indian Express.

Trump praises Pak leadership

After the meeting, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that Munir “is a very great guy, and so is the prime minister”.

Officials said the discussion also touched on the Middle East. The Pakistani statement added that Sharif “lauded President Trump’s efforts to bring about an immediate end to the war in Gaza,” as quoted by Indian Express.

The visit came days after Pakistan signed a mutual defence agreement with Saudi Arabia, and marks Sharif’s first trip to the White House since 2019, when then-Prime Minister Imran Khan visited during Trump’s first term. Trump previously met Field Marshal Munir at the White House earlier this year in a separate, unprecedented meeting.

The closed-door meeting described by the PMO as held in a “pleasant atmosphere” began about 30 minutes late and lasted roughly an hour and 20 minutes. US Vice President J. D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were among the US officials present, the PMO said. Photographs released afterward showed Sharif and Munir speaking with Trump, who posed for photos and flashed his trademark thumbs-up, as per Indian Express.

Sharif, in Washington for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, also met Trump on the margins of the UNGA earlier in the week during a multilateral session with leaders from Arab and Muslim-majority countries, the PMO noted, as per the Indian Express report.
