The Indian benchmark indices wrapped up the session on a strong note. The Sensex ended the day at 81,442.04, gaining 443.79 points or 0.55%. Likewise, the Nifty closed at 24,750.90, up 130.70 points or 0.53%.
Meanwhile, the Nifty Bank settled at 55,760.85, marking a rise of 0.15%.

BSE top gainers and losers: Who moved the most today?
The markets saw some upward action today, led by Eternal, which surged 4.56% to top the list of BSE gainers on heavy volumes. Following close behind were Power Grid and ICICI Bank, with gains of 1.89% and 1.64%. Reliance Industries, Adani Ports, and Sun Pharma also posted gains in the range of 1% to 1.35%.
A few heavyweight stocks ended in the red, led by IndusInd Bank, which fell 1.35%, emerging as the top loser on the BSE. Axis Bank followed with a 1.10% decline. Financial majors Bajaj Finserv and Bajaj Finance also slipped. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra and TCS saw modest dips.
Trending stocks gainers today
Shares of Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys surged over 5% in today’s trade, topping the gainers list with strong momentum. Glenmark Pharmaceuticals followed closely with a jump of nearly 4.5%. KFIN Technologies also saw a rise of around 3.6%, while AstraZeneca Pharma India climbed 3.2%. Among other notable movers, Multi Commodity Exchange of India advanced by 3%, and Valor Estate saw a modest gain of 2.8%.
Trending stock losers today
Shares of VIP Industries fell nearly 3% in today’s session, leading the list of losers as the stock faced selling pressure. Paushak also slipped by 2.4%, while Gensol Engineering declined close to 2%. Real estate player Peninsula Land dropped 1.9%, followed by Nahar Spinning Mills, which lost 1.6%. Avanti Feeds, too, edged lower with a cut of around 1.3%.
Top index performers
The BSE Realty index led the sectoral pack with a gain of 1.82%. The BSE Momentum index followed with a rise of 1.04%, while the Healthcare index climbed 0.90%. Meanwhile, the BSE IPO index and the SmallCap index both advanced by 0.66%. The BSE Dollex 30 also edged up 0.62%.
Several stocks surged to their 52-week highs today. Welspun Corp led the pack with a sharp jump of 5.68%, hitting a new peak on strong volumes. MCX India, Healthcare major Fortis, Anupam Rasayan and Lloyds Metals & Energy were also among other stocks in the list. Even SRF, a key player in the chemicals and packaging segment, saw a healthy uptick today.
Best and worst performing companies
Business houses had a strong day on the Street, with the Oswal Group leading the charge as its collective market cap rose nearly 5%. Close behind was the BK Birla Group, clocking a 4% gain, followed by the IIFL Group, which saw a 4% jump. The metals-to-mining major Vedanta Group added 3% in market value, while the Future Group inched up 3%.
On the flip side, the Shapoorji Pallonji Group saw a market cap decline of 2.42%, closely followed by the Emami Group, which lost 2%. The Jaipuria Group also slipped 1.85%, while the TVS Group shed 1.24% in value.
