With the Union Budget 2025 set to be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today, February 1 many are wondering whether the stock markets will remain open for trading. For the third time, the NSE and BSE will open their doors on a Saturday, February allowing investors to react live to the Budget announcements.
Today, February 1, Indian stock and commodity markets will remain open for a special trading session on Budget Day. The markets will run a full session from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM, while commodity trading will continue until 5:00 PM.
The last two instances were in 2015 and 2020, when the Budget was presented on a non-working day.
On a usual note, Indian stock markets are closed on weekends, but the Union Budget which is a major event in the Indian economy often calls for a special exception.

Before the regular trading hours begin, a pre-market session will take place from 9:00 AM to 9:08 AM.
Finance Minister’s eighth budget
Today, February 1, the Union Finance Minister of the country, Nirmala Sitharaman will present her eighth Union Budget for FY25 in a row. Her speech is scheduled to begin at 11 AM in the Lok Sabha.
Markets end higher on Friday
In the previous day trading session, the equity market indices ended on a high note, with the Nifty 50 closing above the 23,500 mark. The Sensex surged 740.76 points, or 0.97%, closing at 77,500.57, while the Nifty 50 ended 258.90 points, or 1.11%, higher at 23,508.40.
