The GIFT Nifty indicated that the Indian equity indices will open on a higher note as they take indications from early trading Asian indices. The US markets closed the session on a positive note on Friday.
Previously, on Friday, the NSE Nifty 50 finished the session 420 points or 1.86% lower at 22,124.70, while the BSE Sensex declined 1,414 points or 1.90% to close at 73,198.

Trump’s tariff threats
U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated during a Fox News interview on Sunday that the tariffs on Canada and Mexico will be implemented as scheduled on Tuesday. However, US President Donald Trump will decide the specific amounts for these tariffs. “Maybe 25% doesn’t go into effect,” Lutnick said on Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”
Asia Markets
Asia markets traded mixed on Monday morning as investors awaited clarity on Donald Trump’s plans to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and other trade partners. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 1.10% at 37,565. The Asia Dow was trading 1.6% lower at 3,805.81. South Korea’s Kospi was flat at 2,532. The Shanghai Composite was trading 0.34% higher at 3,332.
US markets
The US stock markets closed Friday’s trade on a higher note. The S&P 500 advanced 1.59%, closing at 5,954.50. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 601.41 points, or 1.39%, to close at 43,840.91. The Nasdaq Composite added 1.63%, ending the session at 18,847.28.
US dollar
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was down 0.36% at 107.22 on Monday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee depreciated 0.32% to close at 87.49 to the dollar on February 28.
Crude oil
The crude oil prices traded higher on Monday. WTI crude prices were trading at $70.42 up by 0.93%, while Brent crude prices were trading at $73.52 up by 0.97%, on Monday morning.
FII, DII data
Foreign institutional investors (FII) were the net sellers of shares net worth Rs 11,639.02 crore. Meanwhile, the Domestic institutional investors (DII) were the net buyers of shares worth Rs 12,308.63 crore on February 28, 2024, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.
Gold rate today
The 24-carat gold price today is Rs 84,460 per 10 grams. The rate of gold has fallen by 2.3% in the past one week and jumped 2.5% in the last one month. The 22 kt gold rate today is Rs 77,422 per 10 grams. The 18-carat gold price today is Rs 63,345.
Cryptocurrency
Cryptos jumped following the US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a crypto strategic reserve. Bitcoin surged 9 per cent to over $94,000, while Ether jumped by 11 per cent to $2,500. Others including Solana jumped 20 per cent to $169, XRP increased 30 per cent to $2.80, and Cardano grew nearly 60 per cent to $1.02. This initiative added more than $300 billion to the global crypto market, indicating a significant shift in the US digital asset policy.
