Taj Mahal has witnessed a significant increase in footfall in 2014 as compared to the previous year. This mausoleum is a centrally protected monument looked after by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). There has been no decrease in the number of total tourist foot-falls in the past two years. In 2014, the number of domestic and international tourists increased to 6,072,501 against 5,835,342 in 2013.

No guidelines have been issued by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on the issue pertaining to religious grounds.
