Coming 8th April 2024, the first solar eclipse of the year will take place just before Chaitra Navratri which is considered as one of the auspicious days as per Hindu religion. This year there will be a total solar eclipse, it happens when the moon moves from the Sun to the Earth, and as a result, the face of the sun completely gets blocked.

Solar Eclipse timing and date:

The first Solar Eclipse of this year will take place on 8th April, 2024 and it will cross North America, United States, Canada and Mexico. According to Indian Standard timings, it will commence at 9:12 PM and will end on 9th April 2024 at 2:22 am but people of India won’t be able to watch it.

What is Total Solar Eclipse

The time when the moon proceeds from the Sun and to the earth Earth, then the face of the sun gets completely blocked, this is when total solar eclipse takes place, as per NASA. From the position, where the moon’s shadow will cover the sun entirely, that is known as path of totality and then it will turn up into a complete solar eclipse. At that very moment, the sky will get darker almost like a dawn.

Do’s and don’ts of watching Solar Eclipse

Whenever we are watching the solar eclipse, proper safety guidelines need to be followed. Some of the safety procedure issued by NASA which needs to be followed are:

A safe solar viewing glasses should be used while viewing solar eclipse directly.

One can also watch it by using a pinhole projector.

A safe handheld solar viewer can also be used in viewing the eclipse.

Normal dark glasses should be avoided, no matter how dark are the glasses but it is not safe for viewing solar eclipse.

Sunrays will be very bright during the partial phases of total eclipse. While watching the entire solar eclipse, remember to apply sunscreen, wear protective dresses and use a hat in order to safeguard from skin damage.
