In this mortal world, the only thing that remains immortal is one’s name. Emperors used to build megastructures to make a mark in human history. Sometime back, there was a trend of time capsules as well. But what if you can send your name in space? Excited much? Well, if you are all about everything cosmic (not the philosophical matter), then this is the right place for you. Latest reports say that NASA’s special mission to Jupiter will carry many names to the planet. Under the ‘Message in Bottle’ programme, people’s names will be engraved on the Europa Clipper spacecraft. And the best part, its all free!
How to send your name to Jupiter?
The process of submitting your name is pretty simple. All you have to do is login on the official website of NASA’s ‘Message in the Bottle’ project – europa.nasa.gov/message-in-a-bottle/sign-on/. Once you are here, you would be prompted to submit the name that you want to get engraved on the aircraft. After this, it will ask you to submit a valid email id, country and relevant area code. NASA’s website has names of almost all countries. So, it doesn’t matter where you are on Earth, your name can travel to Jupiter!
What do we know about Jupiter’s moon Europa?
Beneath Europa’s dynamic icy crust, scientists are highly confident in the existence of a colossal saltwater ocean, containing nearly twice the volume of water found in Earth’s oceans. Europa, with its thin oxygen atmosphere and abundant water, stands out as a prime candidate in our solar system for potential life exploration. The Europa Clipper mission, scheduled for launch in 2024, aims to commence orbit around the moon by 2030. During its mission, the spacecraft will investigate and search for essential elements conducive to life as we understand it.
