Mysterious disease in Jammu and Kashmir: In Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, a mysterious illness has become a cause of concern among health officials. Recently, three more children from Rajouri district’s Baddal village died of a “mystery illness” at the Jammu’s Government Medical College Hospital.
According to a report by Indian Express, the total number of such casualties has jumped to 12. Reportedly, the authorities are still struggling to find a cause of the deaths. GMC Jammu principal Dr Ashutosh Gupta confirmed the deaths of three more children. “Three others are under treatment and their condition too is not very stable,” he said.
The three deaths come over three weeks after nine people from the village, Indian Express reported. As per the Indian Express report, three children had been admitted to a local hospital Saturday after they began vomiting and sweating following a dinner at a relative’s house. By Sunday evening, three more children from the village had fallen ill.
It is noteworthy that all the victims are either relatives or neighbours of those who died in the village last month. All six were eventually referred to GMC Jammu. While one died Sunday evening, two others passed away Monday.
As the death toll continues to rise, a team of experts from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, the National Institute of Virology and the National Centre for Disease Control, visited the village to collect food and water samples. The deaths also prompted Jammu and Kashmir’s Minister for Health and Medical Education Sakina Itoo and Jal Shakti Minister Javed Rana to visit the village.
Till now, nothing conclusive has been found yet and the deaths have caused panic among the villagers.
