BAFTA Awards 2024 Latest News: F.R.I.E.N.D.S star Matthew Perry was not part of the ‘In Memoriam’ segment at this year’s BAFTA Awards ceremony. The omission led to a massive backlash on the social media with fans slamming the BAFTA for the snub.
Perry, who died in October last year at the age of 54, was not part of the BAFTA tribute, which had Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham performing Cyndi Lauper’s classic hit Time After Time. Fans took to X to say that the decision to omit Perry was in ‘bad form’.
Initially, the reports suggested that Perry was not included in the tributes segment as he was more of a TV star. However, fans pointed out that Perry had also starred in movies such as ‘Fools Rush In’ opposite Salma Hayek and ‘The Whole Nine Yards’ along with Bruce Willis.
Later, BAFTA went on record saying that Perry will be honoured at the BAFTA Television Awards, which are scheduled to take place in May. Last year on October 28, Matthew Perry was found dead at his Los Angeles home. He was 54. Law enforcement officials reported discovering him unresponsive in a hot tub at his residence. Subsequent investigation by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the actor’s death was attributed to “the acute effects of ketamine.”
