The dynamic duo of Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mohanlal has worked its magic once again, propelling L2: Empuraan past the Rs 60 crore mark at the international box office on Day 1. Achieving a historic milestone, the action-packed thriller becomes the tenth Malayalam film to enter the prestigious Rs 100 crore club and the fastest to do so on the box office charts. This Lucifer sequel has outperformed many Bollywood releases this year with over Rs 40 crore collection from its domestic audience.
In a post shared by the makers, they wrote, “The Cicada himself. Empuraan surpasses 100 crore at the box office worldwide in less than 48 hours, setting new benchmarks in cinematic history. A heartfelt thanks to all of you for being part of this extraordinary success!” L2: Empuraan is now a part of the list of Malayali films, Manjummel Boys, Lucifer, Premalu, Puli Murugan, Aadujeevitham, and 2018, which have entered the 100-crore-club previously.

L2 Empuraan Box Office Collection
Empuraan also had the highest opening for a Malayali film in India grossing over Rs 20 crores on Day 1 with majority audience from Kerala, beating “Rekhachitram”, the second-best opener with Rs 1.9 crore. It is also just a few lakhs shy of becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2025, and pushing “Officer on Duty” to the second place. The promising advance booking of Rs 4 crore for the opening weekend of L2: Empuraan brings the box office collection to more than Rs 30 crore till now.
Set against a backdrop of political disturbances and international conspiracies, L2: Empuraan follows the twisted paths of two men whose destinies collide across borders. As power struggles escalate in Kerala and beyond, the narrative uncovers hidden alliances, old rivalries, and unresolved wounds. The action thriller explores themes of revenge, redemption, and the cost of power in a world driven by deceit.
The Prithiviraj directorial has made a place for itself in the box office records becoming one of India’s fastest growing Malayali film. For Mohanlal, Empuraan is the third 100 crore grosser after Pulimurugan and Lucifer. With the Eid 2025 long-weekend coming up, the film is likely to break its own record to become Malayali cinema’s fifth biggest grosser of all time.
