It’s a big day for fans of Broadway musicals as the sequel to Ariana Grande-starrer Wicked (2024), Wicked: For Good, has made Box Office history not only in the US but also worldwide. The film, which is a darker reimagining of the 1900s children’s book The Wizard of Oz had a magical weekend, becoming the biggest opener for a Broadway adaptation in history according to Forbes.

Apart from this it also had the second biggest domestic debut of 2025, just behind A Minecraft Movie. Strong word of mouth, a critical rating of 70% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 95% rating from verified audiences have certainly contributed to the movie’s titanic success. So, in celebration today, let us take a look at the impressive numbers that has everybody talking.

Record breaking collections

Wicked: For Good was predicted to be a chart-topping success when the advanced sale of tickets on October 8 2025, broke through all previously held expectations. American ticketing company Fandago announced that it was the “best first-day ticket pre-seller of 2025.” The film was projected to cross $112-$115 million in it’s opening weekend by Deadline Hollywood while Variety estimated it higher at $150-$180 million.

Now, the ambitious sequel has emerged triumphant at the Box Office and met and surpassed every milestone forecasted for it. Over just a span of the weekend, the film did massive numbers and collected $150 million domestically at the US Box Office while raking in $226 million world wide as per Variety.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the film managed to open at $76 million across 78 international Box Office markets which is 13% more than last year’s Wicked. The top markets for the musical were: the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, South Korea and Mexico. With a swiftness in collections that is breathtaking, Forbes even predicts that the upcoming holiday season could see the film collect over $1 billion.
