Lee Min, a member of the Korean-American music duo As One, passed away on Tuesday, August 5. K-media reports broke the news the next morning, stating that a representative from the R&B group’s agency BRANDNEW MUSIC confirmed the singer’s death.

The singer, whose legal name was Lee Min Young, was found dead at her home. As per the label’s statement, it was Min’s husband who found her deceased after his arrival at the scene. Officials have kicked off an investigation and urged people to refrain from “excessive speculation” until firm facts about the case are revealed. A cause of death hasn’t been confirmed by the officials yet.

In another statement shared with Maeil Business Newspaper’s Star Today, As One’s agency official added that Lee’s funeral was yet to be finalised amid the ongoing investigation. “…but we plan to prepare one soon,” they said.

Who was As One’s Lee Min?

One half of the R&B duo As One, Lee Min debuted alongside her bandmate Crystal Chae in 1999. Over the time, the pair gained attention due to their hits like “Day by Day,” “Desire and Hope,” and “I’m Fine.”

Born in 1978, Korean-American Lee released a song titled “Happy Birthday to You” under the As One banner as recently as this past June. She even guest starred on KBS 2TV’s music talk show The Seasons: Park Bo Gum‘s Cantabile” the fourth of July. At the time, she stepped up as a featured artist alongside comedian Moon Se Yoon and rapper Hanhae on a music track, as per Korea JoongAng Daily.

In addition to her professional K-pop career, she even worked as a music teacher. Back in 2013, she tied the knot with her husband in Hawaii.

Min’s As One member and high school friend Crystal, currently living in the United States, had also departed for South Korea after hearing the sad news, as per recent updates.

In one of her old Instagram posts, Crystal referred to Lee Min as her “other half.” Additionally, another longtime friend of the late artist described her as a “positive person.” K-media also quoted a different acquaintance, saying that they’d met the As One singer last week. They praised her for juggling her K-pop music and job as a teacher.

Rest in peace, singer Lee Min.
