The White Lotus is becoming somewhat of a cult show with not just great content, but also great marketing and an even greater cast. The recently-wrapped White Lotus season 3 has been in news ever since it premiered. Aimee Lou Wood, who plays Chelsea in the third season, has been an indispensable part of the cast this season, but somehow she has always found herself as the talking point for her appearance more than her work. While paparazzi and tabloids have written enough about her, now one of the biggest shows on television, Saturday Night Live, decided it wasn’t enough yet, and put up a skit making fun of Aimee’s teeth. The actor lashed out at the show and its makers, calling out the distasteful nature of the parody.
She remarked that she enjoys jokes and good roasts “when it’s clever and in good spirits,” but there “must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way,” she wrote in a series of Instagram posts.
On SNL’s skit, Sarah Sherman impersonated Aimee’s character from White Lotus, wearing huge prosthetic teeth while parodying her.
This portrayal of Wood on SNL came shortly after the actress spoke about how she’s been in the limelight for her teeth more than her work. She also pointed out that she was bullied for her teeth all her life.
Aimee Wood also wrote that she had received “thousands of messages” from fans and fellow actors agreeing with her since sharing her posts. She also shared the screenshots of everyone who spoke up in favour of her, thus proving her point.
Speaking to GQ magazine recently, Wood said all this chatter around her teeth was “a bit sad because I’m not getting to talk about my work. It makes me really happy that it’s symbolising rebellion and freedom, but there’s a limit,” she said.
“I don’t know if it was a man would we be talking about it this much? It’s still going on about a woman’s appearance,” she added.
The actress clarified that she received apologies from SNL.
