Bollywood actor Dharmendra is being treated for respiratory issues in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, and while the actor remains critical, he is recovering, a hospital source told Financial Express.com.
Meanwhile, his family, including wife Hema Malini, daughter Esha Deol, and son Sunny Deol’s team, has confirmed that the actor is stable and recovering.
Reports of Dharmendra’s passing away started circulating on Tuesday morning after X posts from notable personalities like Rajnath Singh and Javed Akhtar suggested the actor is no longer with us.
Soon after, the 89-year-old actor’s wife, Hema Malini, and daughter Esha Deol took to social media to clarify the actor is ‘stable and recovering’. Malini slammed media for ‘irresponsible’ coverage being ‘disrespectful’. The mother-daughter duo in their social media posts requested privacy, while thanking everyone for their prayers for Dharmendra’s speedy recovery.
What Dharmendra’s family is saying
“The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for Papa’s speedy recovery,” Esha Deol wrote on social media.
Hema Malini on the other blasted the media for spreading ‘false news’ adding that Dharmendra is responding well to the treatment and is recovering.
“What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering?” She concluded the post with – “please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy.”
Earlier Sunny Deol’s team had also issued a statement regarding Dharmendra’s health. “Mr Dharmendra is stable and under observation. Further updates will be shared as available. Kindly don’t indulge in spreading false rumours regarding his health. Request everyone to pray for his speedy recovery and respect the family’s privacy,” it read.
Celebs visit hospital after Dharmendra health scare
Reports about Dharmendra being critical and on ventilator started circulating on Monday. However, sources close to his family said the actor has only been hospitalised for routine checkups. While the reports claimed that Dharmendra was admitted to hospital on October 31 after complaining of breathlessness, sources close to his family told Indian Express that the actor was hospitalised only for routine checkups.
A source quoted by journalist Vickey Lalwani said a hospital staff member had confirmed Dharmendra had been admitted to the ICU but was stable. “He came in complaining of breathlessness. His heart rate is 70, blood pressure is 140/80, and urine output is good. There is nothing to worry about at the moment,” per the hospital staff member.
After the reports of the actor being critical went viral on Monday several video clippings of Bollywood celebs like Shah Rukh Khan, Aryan Khan, and Govinda started circulating. Actress Ameesha Patel, Sunny Deol’s Gadar co-star, was also seen leaving Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital premises in tears.
