Veteran Kannada film actor Mysore Srikantayya Umesh, popularly known as M. S. Umesh passed away on Sunday after battling cancer. He was 80 and died at Kidwai Hospital in Bengaluru. His death has left the Kannada film industry grieving the loss of a much-loved performer.
M. S. Umesh’s journey in cinema
Umesh began his acting career as a child artist in B. R. Panthulu’s film Makkala Rajya. From there, he went on to build a long and steady career in Sandalwood, acting in more than 400 films. He worked with some of the biggest names in Kannada cinema, including Dr Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan, Ambareesh and Anant Nag.
His performances in films such as Guru Shishyaru and Golmaal Radhakrishna are still remembered by fans for their humour and emotional depth. Umesh was known for his natural acting style and his ability to bring both comedy and warmth to the screen.

Over the years, Umesh received many honours for his contributions to cinema and theatre. He won the Best Supporting Actor Award for his role as Thimmarai in the three-part film Kathasangama. He was also honoured with the Natak Akademi Award in 1994 and the Mahanagara Palike Award in 1997.
