Veteran singer Udit Narayan has found himself at the center of controversy after a viral video showed him kissing female fans on the lips during a live concert. Facing widespread backlash on social media, Narayan has addressed the incident, offering clarification on his actions while also expressing his aspirations for India’s highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Narayan dismissed the criticism and highlighted his decorated career. “I am the recipient of several Filmfare Awards, National Awards, Padma Shri, and Padma Bhushan. I aspire to get the Bharat Ratna, like Lataji. She is my idol. I have sung the most duets with her from my generation of singers. When I have Mata Saraswati’s blessings, why should I care about people who cannot bear to see others successful?” he remarked.

Addressing the kissing controversy, Narayan defended his actions, insisting that his bond with fans is pure and affectionate. “What you saw in the so-called scandalous video was a manifestation of the love between my fans and me. They love me. I love them back even more,” he explained. He asserted that he has never done anything in the past to bring dishonor to himself or his family and questioned why he would act differently now, after decades of success.

The singer said that he laughed while discussing the issue and felt no shame. He maintained that his actions were neither sleazy nor hidden, as they took place in the public eye. Furthermore, Narayan expressed sympathy for those who misinterpreted his gestures, ironically thanking them for amplifying his fame through their criticism.

For those unfamiliar with the controversy, multiple videos circulating online show Narayan performing Tip Tip Barsa Paani, where female fans approach him for selfies. In these clips, the singer is seen kissing them on the lips after posing for photos, a move that has sparked divided reactions across social media.
