After minting money at the box office, Pawan Kalyan‘s ‘They Call Him OG’ is all set for its digital premiere four weeks after hitting theatres on September 25.
The film that opened to impressive advance box office collections went on to become the highest-grossing Telugu films of the year and Kalyan’s biggest opener so far. Making the most of the advance box office hype and star power, the film collected over Rs 337 crore in its first week.
How the film was received by the audience
In the Sujeeth’s action-thriller, Pawan Kalyan played the role of Ojas Gambheera while Emraan Hashmi was seen as antagonist Omi Bhau and Priyanka Arul Mohan played Kanmani, the protagonist’s wife. Despite the star power and aura of Pawan Kalyan, the film was criticised for its jaded and predictable story.
“OG isn’t just stylish, it’s one of the most technically brilliant films in recent times. Absolute treat to watch,” read an X review.
“No connection. No emotion. Only elevation. Every 10 minutes it’s another Pawan Kalyan entry, building the legend but leaving you cold if you’re not a fan,” noted another user on X.
If you missed watching They Call Him OG on screen, you can now watch it from the comforts of your home, in the next few days post its OTT premiere.
When and where to watch OG
According to Gulte, one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, would be available on Netflix, on Thursday, October 23, a month after its release.
According to the outlet, the movie’s digital streaming rights were sold to Netflix for a huge price even before its theatrical release.
Is OG a hit?
The film was made on a budget of Rs 250 crore, reportedly. According to a Koimoi report, the film has earned an estimated 190.1 crore net (all languages) at the Indian box office. Adjusting for GST, the gross collection stands at 224.31 crores, indicating the film’s performance isn’t what it was expected.
The film also starred Neha Shetty, Arjun Das, Sriya Reddy, and Prakash Raj. Directed by Sujeeth, it was produced by DVV Danayya and Kalyan Dasari under DVV Entertainments.
