As Diwali approaches with breakneck speed, so are OTT platforms rushing to release new content to binge watch during the upcoming festivities. A host of new and exciting movies have already adorned the various OTT platforms and some are awaiting release within the upcoming days. With the festival season almost upon us, here’s a list of the new and upcoming releases that you can enjoy with family and friends.
Greater Kalesh (Oct 17)
Sure to be a family-favourite, Greater Kalesh starring Ahsaas Channa, Supriya Shukla, Happy Ranajit, Poojan Chabra and others is a slice of life comedy directed by Aditya Chandiok. According to Netflix the summary is as follows: “Twinkle returns home for a surprise Diwali trip, but secrets and disagreements test her family’s bonds in ways she never imagined.” It has also been tagged as a “feel-good” movie so those looking for a movie to relax to with their families are in for a treat.

Bhagwat Chapter One – Raakshas (Oct 17)
A mystery thriller, this Arshad Warsi-starrer follows him as Inspector Vishwas Bhagat, a police officer trying to solve a mysterious case regarding the disappearance of a young woman in Robertsganj where he is transferred. Dark and gritty, the film sees the inspector unravel a disturbing web made up of crime, secrets and death. A guaranteed thriller for those who enjoy the genre.

Final Destination: Bloodlines (Oct 16)
The sixth installment in the Final Destination series which is known for it’s graphic violence and themes of premonitions and death, Final Destination: Bloodlines, lives up to the reputations of its prequels. The film follows college student Stefani Reyes (played by Kaitlyn Santana Juana) as she starts being haunted by visions of a mysterious disaster that was prevented years before she was born. After unexplained deaths start occurring in her family, she seeks to break the curse once and for all. The movie features horror icon Tony Todd as he reprises his role as the coroner William John Bludworth in his final role.

How to Train Your Dragon (Oct 13)
The animated version of How to Train Your Dragon has been well loved by audiences of all generations since it’s release in 2010 – it was truly a defining movie of that era. Now in 2025, the live action remake starring Mason Thames and Nico Parker in the titular roles has made its OTT debut on JioHotstar. The movie follows the adventures of Hiccup Horrendous (Thames) and his newly tamed dragon Toothless as they tackle problems together, form an unlikely bond and come together to save their home.

Lokah: Chapter 1 (Between Oct 17 – 20, tentative)
The Box Office darling starring Kalyani Priyadarshan has enjoyed an incredible run at the theatres but for those who missed it or simply want to enjoy it the comfort of their own homes, the movie is soon to make its OTT debut on JioHotstar. Though official dates for release are not out yet, speculations say it may be between Oct 17 – 20, coinciding with Diwali. The film follows a young woman who discovers that she has mystical skills while facing personal obstacles. She must defeat an evil that is rising and embrace her powers to do so. The film was critically claimed as well as beloved by movie-goers so stay tuned.
