Indian YouTuber and social media Influencer Apoorva Mukhija, also known by her username, The Rebel Kid, recently revealed how the YouTube comedy show India’s Got Latent row led to her evacuating her Mumbai flat, where she had been living for a while. She disclosed that after police had visited her flat during the investigation, other residents of the building had complained about it to the management of the building. Because of this, she was asked by the owners to leave the flat.
Earlier in April, she had posted a story on her Instagram, which showed her switching off the lights in an empty living room. She had captioned this story, ‘End of an era’, suggesting that she was moving out. During this interview, which took place over a car ride, she explained, “Arrey yaar, because the cops came to my house to put up a notice and to summon me, the building management raised a complaint that ‘cops are coming to this building, it’s wrong, that’s why we don’t allow bachelors, that’s why we don’t rent out to single women’”.
The YouTuber further added, “So somehow, I was single-handedly responsible for evacuating feminism out of that building. Kyunki mere ghar par police aayi thi (because police came to my place). So, the owner told me to leave. I stayed in that house for one year only.”
Thankfully, Apoorva was able to retrieve her security deposit after leaving the flat.
The India’s Got Latent controversy
India’s Got Latent was a popular YouTube comedy show, created by comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina. Apoorva featured in one of the episodes as a guest-panellist, along with podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia (better known as BeerBiceps). Apoorva came under scrutiny for misbehaving with a contestant. She was subjected to multiple FIRs along with Ranveer and Samay Raina. The latter had quickly deleted the problematic videos.
Apoorva’s journey after the controversy
After the intense backlash, Apoorva took a break from social media to navigate the situation. She has since returned and is active on her social media platforms.
Currently on the work front, Apoorva is seen on Karan Johar’s reality TV show, The Traitors, adapted from the UK version with the same name. Her appearance on the show has also led to drama, with clashes between her and fellow participant Uorfi Javed.
