Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna‘s horror comedy with all the right ingredients, ones that make a film commercial success, has been spinning magic at the box office. The Diwali release that hit the theatres on October 21, has set the box office registers ringing with steady collections.
The entertainer with a supernatural twist continues to mint money on its sixth day of release. On its first weekend (October 25 and October 26), the film’s collections saw an upward swing and on both days it managed to garner over Rs 13 crore, according to trade website Sacnilk.
The film may soon be entering the Rs 100 crore club with its India net collections reaching a total of ₹ 91.70 Cr in six days. However, considering the Diwali festivities and long weekends are over, the weekday collections may dip. Chhath Puja holiday on Monday, October 27 in states like Delhi, Bihar, West Bengal and Rajasthan may add to the theatre crowd.
Here’s how Thamma fared during the weekend
On October 25, the first Saturday of the movie release, the film collected Rs 13.1 crore, a jump of around 30% compared to Friday. The Sunday collections for the film are roughly estimated at Rs 13 crore, raising hopes that the consistent interest in the film would continue to bring in more viewers in the coming days.
Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat on the other hand is yet to cross the Rs 50 crore mark. However, the film improved its weekend collection by 13.6% and collected Rs 6.25 crore on Saturday, and Rs 6.75 crore on Sunday. While the film is moving at a comparatively slower pace than Thamma, the consistent collections are adding to the box office numbers.
Thamma’s storyline
Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna team up for Indian cinema’s rare vampire movie where the former turns into a vampiric creature Betal and takes on Nawazuddin Siddiqui‘s antagonistic character, another powerful Betal. While the film has got mixed reviews, people seem to be resonating with the characters and the storyline.
