Thamma Box Office Collection Day 7: Ayushmann-Rashmika film smashes Rs 95 crore mark, overtakes Stree and Bhediya in week 1Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest release Thamma, a vampire horror-comedy within Maddock Films’ expanding Horror-Comedy Universe is going strong at box office even though its pace has started to slow down. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film closed its first week at Rs 95.55 crore domestically and is just Rs 4.45 crore short of entering the Rs 100 crore club.

Thamma Box Office Collection Day 7

The film opened on a high with Rs 24 crore on its first day due to the post-Diwali holiday rush and strong word of mouth. Collections remained strong through the festive period as the film collected Rs 18.60 crore on Govardhan Pooja, Rs 13 crore on Bhai Dooj, Rs 10 crore on Friday, Rs 13.10 crore on Saturday, and Rs 12.60 crore on Sunday.

However, once festivities came to an end, the film saw a sharp decline. On Day 7 (Monday), Thamma recorded its lowest single-day earnings so far, which is Rs 4.25 crore.

Ahead of ‘Stree’ and ‘Bhediya’, but ‘Munjya’ still ahead

With its week-one total, Thamma has already outperformed Maddock’s earlier installments like  Stree and Bhediya when comparing opening weeks. But it is still behind Sarpotdar’s Munjya, which crossed Rs 100 crore after a slow but steady six-week run, despite having no major stars.

Expectations for Thamma were particularly high following the record-breaking success of Stree 2 earlier this year and because of the Diwali festivities.

Thamma: Story, cast and more

Thamma tells the story of Alok (Ayushmann), who falls for Tadaka (Rashmika) during a hiking trip, only to discover she is a “betal”. The film also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui as another vampire and cameo appearances from characters across the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe, including Varun Dhawan. As per the reviews, Thamma is being called Ayushmann Khurrana’s career-best performance.

Competition mild for now

In comparison, the only other Diwali release, Milap Zaveri’s romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa has collected Rs 44.85 crore so far, less than half of Thamma’s total. Yet its Monday earnings of Rs 3.35 crore came surprisingly close to Thamma’s Day 7 collection of Rs 4.25 crore.

For now, Thamma faces no major obstacle for the next 10 days. The next much-awaited release, Haq starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam is all set to hit the screens on November 7. This week’s only new arrival, Single Salma starring Huma Qureshi, has arrived quietly and is unlikely to disrupt earnings unless it unexpectedly catches on like a sleeper hit.

Expanding the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe

Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Thamma tells the story of Alok (Ayushmann), who falls for Tadaka (Rashmika) during a hiking trip, only to discover she is a “betal”. The film also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui as another vampire and cameo appearances from characters across the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe, including Varun Dhawan.

Whether or not it crosses Rs 100 crore this week, Thamma has already established itself as another strong box-office chapter in Maddock’s universe-driven comedy-horror franchise. The coming days will reveal whether it maintains its pace or slows down before other releases hit theatres.
