Anupam Kher and Shubhangi Dutt’s emotional Hindi drama Tanvi The Great released in theatres on July 18, but struggled to leave a mark at the box office. Despite receiving positive reviews from sections of the audience, the film faced stiff competition from the big-ticket release Saiyaara, which dominated screens and audience attention on its opening day.
Tanvi The Great collected Rs 0.40 crore on Day 1, according to data from Sacnilk. The film had an overall Hindi occupancy of 14.41% on Friday, with the highest traction seen during night shows at 24.47%. Morning and afternoon shows recorded 13.29% and 7.93% occupancy, respectively, while the evening saw a slight uptick at 11.93%.
Strong Performances, But a Box Office Challenge
Tanvi The Great tells the inspiring story of a 21-year-old autistic girl, Tanvi, who dreams of joining the Indian Army to fulfill her late father Captain Samar Raina’s dream of saluting the flag at Siachen Glacier. The heart-touching narrative struck an emotional chord with viewers, but its impact was limited by the massive box office clash with Saiyaara.
The film features an ensemble cast including Anupam Kher, Shubhangi Dutt, Iain Glen, Karan Tacker, Boman Irani, Pallavi Joshi, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swamy, and Nassar. Anupam Kher has also directed and produced the film under the banner of the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC). The movie runs for 2 hours and 30 minutes and is estimated to have been made on a budget of Rs 50 crore.
Tough Competition Ahead With Son Of Sardaar 2 Release
With Son Of Sardaar 2 slated for release next Friday, Tanvi The Great has just a few days to improve its performance at the box office. The coming days will be crucial for the film to build momentum and draw in family audiences through word of mouth. Given its emotional depth and patriotic undertone, the film could still find its audience—if it gets the breathing room it needs.
