Aamir Khan has made a triumphant return to the silver screen with Sitaare Zameen Par, which has now officially entered the Rs 100 crore club at the domestic box office. The film, which takes us into the lives of neurodivergent children through the lens of sports, is proving to be a major hit with audiences across India, even amid stiff competition from new releases like Maa and Kannappa.
On its second Saturday, the film posted a significant surge in box office earnings, nearly doubling Friday’s figures. According to box office tracking site Sacnilk, Sitaare Zameen Par collected Rs 12.75 crore on Saturday, a sharp rise from its Rs 6.65 crore haul the day before. Remarkably, Saturday’s takings even surpassed those of the film’s opening day — a rare feat that underscores the film’s growing popularity through strong word-of-mouth.
With this boost, the film’s total domestic earnings have reached Rs 108.30 crore.
Serving as a thematic follow-up to Khan’s beloved 2007 drama Taare Zameen Par, the new film explores similar emotional themes while shifting its focus from academics to athletics. While the original highlighted the struggles of a dyslexic child and resonated deeply with audiences for its sensitive portrayal of learning disabilities, Sitaare Zameen Par introduces a new narrative framework centered around sports and neurodiversity.
Directed by R.S. Prasanna and co-produced with Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, the film introduces a fresh ensemble of young talent to Hindi cinema, including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.
The supporting cast features several seasoned performers, including Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, Brijendra Kala, and Ankita Sehgal, adding depth and gravitas to the story.
In Sitaare Zameen Par, Khan plays Gulshan, a once-celebrated basketball coach who finds himself in legal trouble following a DUI incident. As part of his community service sentence, he is assigned to train a group of neurodivergent children — a task he initially resents. However, what begins as a punishment evolves into a transformative journey for both the coach and his young team.
Genelia Deshmukh portrays Sunita, Gulshan’s wife, whose unwavering support becomes crucial to his emotional evolution throughout the film.
With the momentum building and no signs of slowing down, Sitaare Zameen Par appears well on its way to becoming one of the year’s standout hits — both commercially and critically.
