After Sitaare Zameen Par saw a resurgence at the box office during its fourth weekend, Aamir Khan’s sports drama has now witnessed a sharp fall in its box office earnings, falling by nearly 86% on Monday, July 14. This comes after the film performed consistently well at the box office for four weeks.

According to data from industry tracker Sacnilk, the film netted just Rs 41 lakh at the domestic box office on its 25th day, well below the Rs 1 crore bracket it was previously earning. The film, mounted on a budget of Rs 80 crore, has now made a total of Rs 161.01 crore net in India since its June 20 release.

The weekend had given the film a temporary boost, collecting Rs 2.5 crore on Saturday and Rs 2.85 crore on Sunday, pushing the weekday total to Rs 5.34 crore. However, this momentum did not carry into the week, with Monday occupancy in Hindi-speaking regions dropping to just 9.98%.

Directed by RS Prasanna and produced under Aamir Khan Productions, Sitaare Zameen Par opened at Rs 10.7 crore net and has since become Khan’s fifth highest-grossing film after 3 Idiots. For co-star Genelia Deshmukh, the film is the highest-grossing project of her career since Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na.

Internationally, the film continues to perform decently well though, with a total worldwide gross of Rs 245.90 crore over 24 days. Of this, Rs 191.90 crore came from the domestic market, while overseas contributions stood at Rs 54 crore.

In terms of ticket sales, Sitaare Zameen Par has now overtaken Raid 2, which had recorded 2.91 million tickets sold during its theatrical run. It now ranks just behind Housefull 5, which sold 2.4 million tickets. Topping the chart remains Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, with an unmatched 12.58 million tickets sold.

While entering the top 10 on BookMyShow’s ticket sales leaderboard, introduced in 2023, appears unlikely, Sitaare Zameen Par still has a chance to surpass Shaitaan, which recorded 2.97 million tickets, potentially moving it higher among the top 15 Bollywood films in terms of ticket sales.

Despite the Monday slump, the film’s overall box office run is strong, though it would require approximately Rs 50 crore more in net domestic earnings to challenge the records set by Khan’s earlier blockbusters.
