Shashi Kapoor acted in more than 150 films, including a dozen English language movies. He was known for playing romantic roles and charmed the audience with his good looks and acting skills. He was part of several evergreen films such as Deewar (1975), Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978), Kabhi Kabhie (1976) and Namak Halaal (1982). His early life acting stint started with films like Meena (1944), Tadbir and Bachpan (1945).
Interestingly, Shashi Kapoor’s name was credited under the screen name of Shashi Raj Kapoor. But while growing up he dropped ‘Raj’ and kept only Shashi Kapoor. Shashi Kapoor got married to English actress Jennifer Kendal in July 1958. They acted in a number of films together like Junoon and Bombay Talkie. Shashi and Jennifer established Prithvi Theatre on 5 November 1978 in Mumbai.
Shashi Kapoor won several accolades in his career. The late actor received four National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards in his decades-long career. The actor was also honored with Padma Bhushan in the year 2011. He was conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2014.
He died in 2017, at the age of 79, after a prolonged battle with liver cirrhosis.
