When it comes to Bollywood, one actor that pops into our minds undoubtedly is the ‘King of Bollywood’ Shah Rukh Khan. This year, Badshah of B-Town is turning 60 and fans just can’t keep calm. He has been ruling Bollywood ever since he made his debut in Deewana. Now as King Khan is turning 60, he has surprised his fans with a gift that any diehard fan of SRK deserved. He took to his instagram where he announced re-release of his seven iconic films.
The Shah Rukh Khan Film Festival begins from October 31 and will go on for two weeks worldwide.The event will bring some of his most iconic films back to theatres across India and around the world, allowing fans to relive the moments that made him the King of Bollywood.
So which of SRK’s films are making a comeback during the much-awaited Shah Rukh Khan Film Festival?
The two-week festival, planned by PVR Inox Limited, will screen seven classic and contemporary blockbusters across more than 75 cinemas in over 30 Indian cities, with screenings also planned internationally. The films returning to the silver screen include:
– Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994)
The 1994 romantic comedy directed by Kundan Shah, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa stars SRK as Sunil, a lovable musician who tries to win over the girl of his dreams, Anna, played by Suchitra Krishnamoorthi. SRK’s honest, and charming performance was a standout, which helped him earn the prestigious Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor.
– Dil Se (1998)
Directed by Mani Ratnam, Dil Se is an intense political drama starring Shah Rukh Khan as a journalist who falls in love with a mysterious woman played by Manisha Koirala during a period of political unrest. The film also has Preity Zinta in her debut role as SRK’s fiancee, Preeti Nair. Known for its powerful visuals and the iconic A.R. Rahman soundtrack, the film gifted audiences the evergreen song “Chaiyya Chaiyya.”
– Devdas (2002)
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Devdas is one of Indian cinema’s most iconic films, known for its grand visuals and tragic love story. Shah Rukh Khan plays Devdas, a man who turns to alcohol and ruins himself after being separated from his childhood love Paro, played by Aishwarya Rai. His downward journey is fuelled by his friend Chunnilal (Jackie Shroff), who takes him to a courtesan named Chandramukhi (Madhuri Dixit). Chandramukhi falls in love with Devdas and tries to save him, but fails. SRK’s powerful performance won him several awards, including the Filmfare Best Actor Award.
– Main Hoon Na (2004)
Directed by Farah Khan, this SRK-starrer is a mix of comedy, action, romance and drama. Shah Rukh Khan plays Army Major Ram, who goes undercover as a college student to protect Sanjana (Amrita Rao), the daughter of a General, from a terrorist ex-soldier, Raghavan (Suniel Shetty). During the mission, Ram also gets a chance to reconnect with his estranged step-brother Lucky and stepmother. The film’s soundtrack was a major hit and went on to win the Filmfare Award for Best Music.
– Om Shanti Om (2007)
“Agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaaho, toh poori kayanat usey tumse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai.” How can we forget this famous dialogue and the debut of the queen of hearts, Deepika Padukone. The film directed by Farah Khan is about a 1970s junior artist, Om (Shah Rukh Khan), who loves superstar Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone). After a producer kills them both, Om is reborn three decades later as a wealthy actor, Om Kapoor. He seeks revenge for the past tragedy, casting Shanti’s lookalike. It was one of the biggest blockbusters of Shah Rukh Khan.
– Chennai Express (2013)
Directed by Rohit Shetty, this is a laughter riot that broke several box office records. Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) accidentally boards the Chennai Express train while trying to secretly travel to Goa to immerse his grandfather’s ashes. On the train, he meets Meenamma (Deepika Padukone), a runaway bride whose powerful ‘don’ father is chasing her.
This film also gave us iconic songs. From Lungi dance to 1-2-3-4, this is one of the most loved films of SRK and Deepika Padukone.
– Jawan (2023)
Shah Rukh Khan’s recent action-thriller Jawan broke box office records. It became one of the highest-grossing Indian films worldwide directed by Atlee Kumar. Shah Rukh Khan is both the hero son, Azad, and the soldier father, Vikram. Azad, a jailer, uses a team of women to perform heists and fight corruption. The father and son join forces to get revenge and get justice by taking down a powerful arms dealer.
