While Salman Khan starrer Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (PRDP) is a simple story laid out in an opulent manner that highlights familial duties and upholds principles of brotherhood and love, yet it does get jarring at times. And one of the most trying times for viewers is when certain songs come on screen.
So yes, there are a couple of blemishes. Frankly. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (PRDP) could’ve done with a lilting score. Also, too many songs, in quick succession, could’ve been avoided. The villains’ track is half-baked and so is the culmination.
Even PRDP run time could’ve been shorter too. The film seems like a never-ending story at times.
But this problem has been festering for long as far as Sooraj Barjatya is concerned. His earlier films too had way too many songs that were difficult to keep track of and some were indeed over the top.

In this instance, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is truly embellished with too many songs, but fortunately for the audience the soundtrack this time ranges from excellent (title track) to hummable (‘Jalte Diye’, ‘Aaj Unse Milna Hai’ and ‘Prem Leela’) to plain mediocre.
The silver lining is that one doesn’t mind the mediocre tracks that crop up since the strong narrative more than compensates for everything else. Besides, the title track is a chartbuster and its choreography is the icing on the cake.
