At this point, Ryan Reynolds and his signature fictional identity as Deadpool are inseparable. Yet another instance proving the firm belief unfolded at Cannes Lions 2025 at Stagwell’s Sport Beach during a recent panel.
The Hollywood star’s playful dig at the ongoing legal drama surrounding the film It Ends With Us comes over a week after a US judge dismissed Justin Baldoni’s $400 million counter-suit against Blake Lively, Ryan and the Gossip Girl star’s publicist. Given Reynolds’ latest sardonic adventure, it’s quite likely that he’s finally found his breath of relief after the long gruelling Hollywood between Baldoni and his wife that kicked off last year and even dragged in pop queen Taylor Swift.
Ryan Reynolds seemingly takes a dig at It Ends With Us drama at Cannes Lions 2025
Though focussed on promoting his Welsh football team Wrexham at the Cannes Lions 2025, the Marvel star dove into a hilarious fan interaction during an outdoor panel. He seemingly took a dig at all the legal crossfire that had consumed his life this past year. “I’m not throwing this,” he said as he was ready to toss a water to someone in the crowd. In a self-deprecating fashion, he went on to joke, “I’ve been around lawyers. You can walk up here and grab it.”
This isn’t the first time Reynolds has appeared to poke fun at his and Blake’s legal entanglement with Baldoni in public. In February 2025, the Canadian actor went viral for his SNL 50 cameo. Springing up from his seat in the audience section, Ryan responded to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s question about how he was doing in a similar fashion. “Great,” he took a beat before quipping, “Why? What have you heard?”
The Internet was convinced that the Definitely, Maybe star improvised his line, especially given how Lively appeared to be taken aback by his delivery. Despite an SNL staffer maintaining that he pulled it off on his own, a source close to the actor confessed otherwise, hinting at Saturday Night Live‘s intervention since the very beginning.
Taylor Swift dragged back into Blake Lively Justin Baldoni legal battle
While Ryan Reynolds was off joking about the whole legal affair, the same judge who slammed Baldoni’s suit against the Green Lantern couple, has now dealt out a ruling in the Jane the Virgin vet’s favour. Taylor Swift has been again been pulled back into the case, Judge Lewis Liman said on Wednesday that the It Ends With Us director can gain access to certain text messages between the Grammy winner and Lively.
“The requests for messages with Swift regarding the film and this action are reasonably tailored to discover information that would prove or disprove Lively’s harassment and retaliation claims,” Liman ruled.
Blake’s legal team has long been urging for Swift and Lively’s names to be saved by protecting their personal chats. According to Page Six, they even tried to negotiate an agreement with Baldoni’s lawyers, saying that they were willing to offer any documents they want, except Taylor’s messages. In return, they asked for “all video footage related to the film and full, unredacted version of communication” mentioned in Baldoni’s official complaint.
The Jane the Virgin star’s team has denied these claims.
This major ruling with Taylor Swift in the focus has been rolled out despite the singer being name-dropped in Justin’s $400 million lawsuit, which has since been dismissed. Moreover, the “Anti-Hero” hit-maker was subpoenaed as a witness in the forthcoming March 2026 trial. Even that request from Baldoni’s side was dropped.
While Reynolds seems to be as ease at Cannes Lions 2025, things are not all hunky-dory between Blake and Taylor. Insider continue to fuel reports about their friendship being ruined for once and for all.
