In an awe-inspiring achievement for Roi Roi Binale, the final movie of late Assamese crooner Zubeen Garg, the film has become the highest earning Assamese feature in history surpassing even hits like Bidurbhai and Bhaimon Da. As per industry tracker Sacnilk it has earned a record Rs 16.66 crores, which is virtually unheard of for an Assamese movie, within just 11 days of release and further records await breaking.

With an incredible IMDb rating of 8.9, the film has not only managed to exceed all expectations but has also captured the hearts of people all over India. Screenings of the movie took place in unlikely Indian cities like Jaipur, Goa, Bhopal and Lucknow among many others marking another first for the film with it’s pan-India release. With over 180 screenings across the country, co-producer Garima Saikia Garg, Zubeen’s wife and director Rajesh Bhuyan fulfilled the late artist’s dream of making Assamese cinema mainstream.

Box Office performance of Roi Roi Binale

The movie which opened domestically on October 31 with Rs 1.85 crores saw a steady rise in earnings through the weekend with Day 1 and Day 2 seeing earnings of Rs 2 crores and 1.8 crores as per Sacnilk. Collections saw a slight dip through the week but rose again on the second weekend with Day 9 and Day 10 raking in earnings of Rs 1.39 and Rs 1.54 crores. Now, on the 12th day of Roi Roi Binale at the Box Office, the movie has earned Rs 0.41 crores which are early estimates.

Overall, the movie has had a gross collection, which is the total amount before taxes and deductions, of Rs 19.28 crores which is incredibly impressive for a regional movie coming out of Jollywood; India net collections amounted to Rs 16.66 crores as mentioned previously. It is certainly the fastest to do so and the theatrical run is yet ongoing so it will be interesting to see what further milestones it achieves.

Zubeen’s dream project

Described as a “musical love story” by the filmmakers, Roi Roi Binale was Zubeen Garg’s dream project and he had both conceived the plot and written it. He also wrote the score for the movie with 8 songs making up the soundtrack list. With a budget of approximately Rs 5 crores, the film has made more than 2x its budget, with fans of the star flocking towards theatres in droves.

The people of Assam lined up to catch screenings as early as 4:30 AM displaying a level of love and dedication towards Garg only seen previously during the demise of legendary Assamese singer and songwriter Bhupen Hazarika. As Roi Roi Binale continues to make history at the Box Office, fans and admirers of Zubeen Garg have proven that his legacy will continue to live on through his work.
