‘Roy’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez, had an average opening week, with its box office collections falling far short of the opening week performance of Akshay’s Kumar’s ‘Baby’. While ‘Baby’ collected Rs 63.82 crore in the first seven days, ‘Roy’ box office collections could not even cross Rs 50 crore.
With just Rs 2.76 crore from Thursday (Day 7), Roy’s business now stands at Rs 41.77 crore as Vikramjit Singh’s film fails to impress the crowd due to its confusing plot.
Roy had fared averagely initially despite Ranbir Kapoor’s presence and earned Rs 10.40 crore and Rs 11.16 crore on Friday and Saturday respectively across India. The India-Pakistan match hampered its collection on Sunday, but Roy still managed to earn Rs 7.12 crore to close the opening weekend at Rs 28.68 crore.

Though the mood was gloomy, the scenario was different at multiplexes as Gautam Dutta, CEO, PVR Ltd, pointed out, “Roy opened well. The songs and Ranbir Kapoor were Roy’s key attrctions. While Roy witnessed an average occupancy of 55 per cent.”
