Queen Elizabeth II completes 65 years on the throne as the monarch of Great Britain today. On the occasion of her sapphire jubilee, we take a look at some of the royal family’s most expensive bling (some of which coincidentally made from sapphire). While the queen has never allowed experts to examine the worth of her jewels, even the estimated guesses will leave you flabbergasted. Check out the brooches, necklaces and crowns that aren’t just gorgeous to look at but have staggering estimated worth.
Cambridge Lovers Knot Tiara: Not only is this crown studded with pearls and diamonds, but even the frame is shaped from 19 diamonds. It has been worn by Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana, but was later returned to the monarch after the late princess divorced Prince Charles.
The George VI Victorian Suite: Not only is this matching necklace and earrings set made of diamonds and sapphires, but it has a sweet history to it as well. Elizabeth was gifted this when she was still a princess by her father Prince George on the day of her wedding.
The Imperial State Crown: The list of embellishments of the queen’s coronation crown is endless, but put simply, it has 2868 diamonds, including the Cullianan Diamond – the second largest diamond in the world – 17 sapphires, around 270 pearls, 11 emeralds. The frame is made of silver and gold, making no surprise that it weighs over 1 kilo.
Sapphire brooch: Experts have estimated that this diamond-encrusted sapphire brooch is worth roughly Rs 33 crore.
The Vladimir Tiara: A British diplomat smuggled this crown out of Russia, this tiara has fifteen cabochon emeralds which can be switched with teardrop pearls, according to the wish of the monarch.
The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara: This crown’s swanky look fits its quirky name. It was given to the queen as a wedding present by her grandmother and is decked with diamonds.
