Back in May, South Korean actor Yoon Si Yoon (or Yoon Shi Yoon) was confirmed to pop in for a cameo appearance in the hit SBS K-drama Taxi Driver‘s upcoming third season. A brand-new update emerging from the star’s life has since hinted at how he is hard at work preparing for the forthcoming anticipated threequel of the popular-webtoon-turned-drama.

Secrets and insights tied to Hallyu stars’ lives are often spilled on South Korean variety shows, prompting amplified excitement for a teased project in the works. Yoon Si Yoon’s name similarly took centre stage over the weekend on an episode of SBS’ show called My Little Old Boy.

K-drama star’s no water diet revealed

Having previously expressed his desire to look a certain way for Taxi Driver 3, Yoon revealed that he was aiming for a gaunt and sunken look. To achieve that end, he had already started working on weight control. Through his weekend variety show appearance, he finally disclosed his body stats. As per the recent revelation at the hands of the actor himself, Si Yoon’s height currently stands at 177 cm, with his body fat percentage a bare 6.7%.

Stunned by disclosure, host Seo Jang Hoon remarked, “It’s practically no body fat.” Digging further into his extreme diet measures, the Nokdu Flower actor said it was his “24-hour water-cutting day.” As for what that entailed, Yoon explained that he would be following a “no-water diet” the whole day.

Even eatable items like dumplings made with tofu sheets would be completely dry. He also planned to consume a meal of asparagus, known for triggering diuretic effect, which refers to the increased urine production process that help your kidney expel extra salt and water from your body.

Yoon Si Yoon dropped 5 kgs in a day

In addition to his extreme diet changes, the Taxi Driver 3 star also doubled down on his workout sessions and sauna time (45 degree Celcius) to push for full dehydration and increased sweat expulsion just days before filming. Following in UFC fighters’ footsteps, he even went through with the “extreme sauna” technique to get rid of water adding up kilos. In the end, Yoon’s weight dropped from 67.4 kg to 62.3 kg following his 24-hour water diet.

Shocking the variety show MCs, Yoon Si Yoon secured the “water-cutting king” title, shedding his years-long public image defined by youthful charm. Meanwhile, over on social media, fans expressed concerns for his health and well-being. On one hand, some shared that there was no need to go to such extreme ends. On the other, some wondered if the actor was coming onboard as one of the antagonists of the episodic run.

“Having an extreme diet for a cameo?? #yoosiyoon is definitely playing a villain for #taxidriver3 isn’t he lmao,” wrote a fan on X.

As far-fetched it may seem, water diet isn’t a new fad. Wolverine star Hugh Jackman also followed through a 36-hour dehydration regime for Logan. As is evident, such an extreme diet may pay off momentarily but it can easily lead to severe dehydration, nutrient deficiencies, malnutrition, muscle loss, and weak immune system.
