Pawan Kalyan’s OG hit the screens with a bang yesterday, breaking records at the box office on its very first day. Back in 2024, Pushpa 2 had the same kind of hype, with fans waiting just as eagerly for its release. OG marked Pawan Kalyan’s big comeback with an action-packed story, while Pushpa 2, the sequel to the 2021 hit, came with huge expectations after the first film’s massive success.
With fans of both stars flocking to theatres, the Day 1 box office numbers of these two action films have become one of the most talked-about topics in Indian cinema this year. But when the numbers came in, which film truly smashed records on its first day?
OG Day 1 Box Office Collections
Pawan Kalyan’s OG, started strong with Rs 20.25 crore in advance booking collections in Telugu alone. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film raked in nearly Rs 10 crore in the early hours and went on to collect a staggering Rs 70 crore on Day 1 across India. The action-thriller also features Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi, who plays the antagonist to Pawan Kalyan’s Ojas ‘OG’ Gambheera.
Audiences have praised OG for its women-centric theme and strong performances by Priyanka Arul Mohan and Sriya Reddy. Netizens believe that the film will particularly appeal to Gen Z viewers. Globally, the film crossed Rs 100 crore with Day 0 collections alone, making it one of the highest-grossing films of 2025 so far.
OG also set new records by surpassing openings of films like Rajinikanth’s Coolie (Rs 65 crore), Bollywood hits Saiyaara (Rs 21.5 crore) and Chhaava (Rs 31 crore), as well as Pawan Kalyan’s previous release Hari Hara Veera Mallu (Rs 34 crore). With Rs 26 crore collected globally, OG crossed the Rs 100 crore mark with ease.
Pushpa 2 Box Office Collection Day 1
However, when it comes to Day 1 dominance, Pushpa 2 took the lead. The Allu Arjun starrer, released on Thursday, recorded a massive Rs 165 crore nett in Indian theatres on its first day. Adding Rs 10.1 crore from Telugu previews on Wednesday, the total opening day collection reached Rs 175.1 crore.
The regional breakdown shows Rs 95.1 crore in Telugu, Rs 67 crore in Hindi, Rs 7 crore in Tamil, Rs 5 crore in Malayalam, and Rs 1 crore in Kannada. The film became the highest opener in Hindi, overtaking Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which had Rs 65.5 crore on its opening day. Trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan estimates Pushpa 2 has already collected around Rs 282.91 crore worldwide.
Who smashed the Box Office Collections on day 1: OG or Pushpa 2?
While Pawan Kalyan’s OG made a strong debut and set multiple records, Pushpa 2 remains the bigger Day 1 blockbuster by a significant margin. Fans of both stars are celebrating, but it’s clear that Allu Arjun’s action sequel has set a new benchmark in Indian cinema.
