Mirai Box Office Collection Day 5: Teja Sajja seems to have found his sweet spot with fantasy blockbusters. After making waves with Hanu Man last year, the star is back in theatres with Mirai, directed by Karthik Gattamneni. The film is pulling in good numbers at the box office, but its journey so far shows that it’s struggling to catch up with the massive benchmarks set by Hanu Man.
Mirai Box Office Collection Day 5
On Tuesday, which marked Mirai’s fifth day in theatres, the film earned Rs 5.75 crore across all languages in India. That’s a slight drop from Monday’s Rs 6.40 crore. Over the weekend though, Mirai had a strong showing, Rs 13 crore on Friday, Rs 15 crore on Saturday, and Rs 16.6 crore on Sunday. Adding it all up, the film’s India collection now stands at Rs 56.75 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. However, it has crossed Rs 100 crores worldwide.
Now, though this is no less than a milestone, his previous film Hanu Man had crossed Rs 67 crore in just five days. That film also had the advantage of a Thursday release and gained attention with incredible word of mouth. Mirai is riding high, but its growth hasn’t been as explosive, even with the hype of Teja’s rising stardom and heavyweight backing.
Mirai occupancy trends
Most of Mirai’s earnings are coming from its original Telugu version. But the Hindi version got a nice push. Apart from Hindi, the film has been released in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, and even Chinese. The makers, TG Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad of People Media Factory are clearly eyeing a global audience.
Mirai: Story, cast and more
Mirai is the story of Vedha (played by Teja), a young warrior chosen to fight against evil. His enemy, Mahabir Lama aka the Black Sword (Manchu Manoj), is on the hunt for nine mystical texts, or grandhas, left behind by Emperor Ashoka. If he succeeds, he gains unlimited power. To stop him, Vedha sets out to find Mirai, a divine weapon once wielded by Lord Ram.
The cast is equally strong with Manchu Manoj, Ritika Nayak, Shriya Saran, Jagapathi Babu, and Jayaram joining Teja on screen.
The film packs in action, fantasy-driven storytelling, and plenty of visual spectacle. Fans have praised the scale of the movie, and Teja’s performance is once again winning hearts.
Will Mirai continue growing at the box office?
The real test for Mirai begins next week. On September 25, it will face a competition from Sujeeth’s OG, starring none other than Telugu superstar (and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister) Pawan Kalyan. The film also features Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi as the villain, making it a big-ticket pan-India release.
So far, Mirai has done enough to be called a hit. But whether it will turn into a long-running blockbuster like Hanu Man is still uncertain.
