KPop Demon Hunters: What’s the story About?

KPop Demon Hunters follows the thrilling double life of Huntrix, a powerhouse K‑pop girl group consisting of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey — global superstars by day, and fierce demon hunters by night. Sworn to protect their fans from lurking supernatural threats, the trio balances sold-out concerts with high-stakes battles against dark forces.

Their biggest nemesis? It arrives in the form of their irresistible rivals, the Saja Boys — a wildly popular boy band whose members, Jinu, Abby, Mystery, Romance, and Baby, are actually soul-stealing demons in disguise. As tensions rise on stage and in the shadows, Huntrix must fight to save not just their fandom, but the very soul of K‑pop itself.

Why KPop Demon Hunters is a must-watch

Director and writer Maggie Kang began developing K‑Pop Demon Hunters nearly seven years ago. After years of creative exploration and careful refinement, the film has finally come to life — and it’s already being hailed as a promising and bold venture.

Real-life K-pop inspirations: One of the most talked-about aspects of the movie is the characters’ striking appearances, sparking widespread speculation among fans about which real-life idols they resemble. In an interview with Forbes, Kang shared insights into the inspirations behind the characters’ designs and personalities, adding to the excitement and intrigue surrounding the film.

She reveals  the Saja Boys were inspired by popular Korean groups such as Tomorrow X Together, BTS, Stray Kids, ATEEZ, BIGBANG, and MONSTA X. Each member reflects familiar archetypes often seen in K-pop boy bands. “I think what I like to talk about is that there are so many certain archetypes that every group has.”

Illustrating the ‘romantic guy’ of every group, Kang said, “I purposely gave him these bangs that were meant to be heart-shaped”. About the youngest, the ‘maknae’ of the group, she explains, “Baby Saja is, obviously, the maknae. They have this look and they’re usually the rapper of the group.”

When it came to creating the three members of Huntrix — Rumi, Mira, and Zoey — Kang shared that their designs were inspired by various K-pop idols and models. “We looked at ITZY, BLACKPINK, and TWICE,” says Kang. “Who else? I think it was a lot of mixing.”

Loveable characters: Talking about one of the strongest characters in the film, Rumi, Kang shared a tweet that mentions the character of Rumi being born 9 years ago.

Arden Cho, who voices Rumi, also reflected on Rumi’s character in  an interview with Gizmodo, saying, “For Rumi, I was focusing more on just her experience. She just goes through so much through the movie. She’s going through a lot of things.” She explains how this character is headstrong, grounded yet very sweet.
