The Kannada prequel, which hit theatres worldwide on October 2, has struck with the audience collecting over Rs 235 crore gross in its opening weekend. Early trends show that the film is well on its way to entering the Rs 300-crore club within just four days of release.

The film opened to a thunderous response, recording a Rs 88 crore gross on day one. While it witnessed a slight dip on Friday with Rs 65 crore, Kantara: Chapter 1 bounced back strongly on Saturday with a 25 per cent increase, earning Rs 82 crore. The positive word of mouth and audience appreciation helped the film regain momentum over the weekend.

According to trade estimates, the film earned Rs 61.5 crore nett on Sunday, taking its four-day India total to Rs 232.75 crore nett (approximately Rs 295 crore gross). With such a strong trend, the Rishab Shetty-starrer is expected to cross the Rs 300-crore milestone by the end of its fourth day in theatres.

As of day four, Kantara: Chapter 1 has already become the third highest-grossing Kannada film of all time, surpassing Yash’s KGF: Chapter 1. The only films ahead of it now are the original Kantara (Rs 408 crore) and KGF: Chapter 2 (Rs 1,215 crore).

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh appreciated the film’s strong box office performance on X (formerly Twitter).
