Many of us have experienced body image issues, where comments from friends, relatives or others have made us feel uncomfortable about the way we look. From trying crash diets to spending long hours at the gym, the pressure to fit in the societal norms. However, we are not the only ones who face this. Celebrities and star kids face similar struggles. Having said that, Aamir Khan’s daughter, Ira Khan, recently spoke openly about her ongoing issues with body image.
‘Talking about this feels scary’
In a recent Instagram post, Ira shared that opening up about her body has been difficult and “a little scary.” She revealed that since 2020, she has moved back and forth between feeling unfit, overweight and obese. While she said she is still trying to understand her body and her relationship with food, she noticed a small positive shift that pushed her to speak publicly about it.
In the caption, Ira wrote that there is still a lot she needs to work through. She clarified that she does not have a diagnosed eating disorder and is not an expert, adding that she was simply sharing her personal experiences.
Ira addresses weight and self-image in video
Along with the post, Ira shared a video message in which she addressed the issue directly. In the video, she acknowledged her weight and said she is medically considered obese for her age and height. She also said she has been struggling with body image and her relationship with food for several years. She shared that discussing these issues feels harder than talking about her depression.
Body image issues have affected many areas of her life
Ira said her body image concerns have affected many areas of her life. She explained that it has influenced how she shows up in social situations, her sense of self-worth, her work, and her relationship with her husband, Nupur Shikhare, whom she calls Popoy. She added that at times, these struggles have been as intense as the effect depression has had on her life.
By speaking openly, Ira said she wants to unpack her thoughts and better understand what she has been dealing with over the years. She added that if her story helps others, that would be a positive outcome.
Caution about online reactions
While encouraging conversation around the issue, Ira also warned followers about online comments. She said she plans to stay away from the comment section, acknowledging that public reactions can sometimes be difficult to handle.
This is not the first time Ira Khan has spoken about mental health. She has previously talked about her long battle with depression and shared how she often felt guilty for struggling despite coming from a privileged background.
