‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ X Reviews – Andy Muschietti’s latest ‘It’ creation has the Internet gasping for air when it comes to praising the newest series. Titled ‘IT: Welcome to Derry,’ the series aims to take you back in time from the 2017 movie, It. An overtly horror series, which does not shy away from the label, has unapologetically received several positive reviews.

For the hardened fans of the franchise, it is a treat seeing Pennywise, the grinning yet creepy clown, return to their screens. And for those who don’t like horror, they might be keeping themselves up to date only via the ‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ memes. Set to release weekly, the Pilot alone has viewers hooked. The second episode, The Thing in the Dark, is set to be released on Friday, October 31, with Episode 3, Now You See It, on November 9.

Fans can catch the It: Welcome to Derry episode 2 on Airtel Xstream Play and JioHotstar (with subscription) in India.

Is IT: Welcome to Derry ‘scarier than movies’?

Painted in white, with its iconic orange hair, it’s a smile one cannot forget, if you have lived the horror of watching ‘It’ (2017) in the cinema. As the Internet reviews find IT: Welcome to Derry “scarier than movies”, the first episode has turned out “better than expected.”

“The horror was great, the visuals are amazing, everything just works,” wrote a viewer on X (formerly Twitter). Debuting with 77% Rotten Tomatoes, it is one of the most popular horror franchises, after The Conjuring and Annabelle. Calling the cinematography “top tier,” a user on X also pointed out the “symbolism within Welcome To Derry.” While it was scary for the viewer, they noticed the parallel drawn with the iconic Uncle Sam, “especially since this is set barely a decade after WW2.”

Some non-English reviews also added that they felt it was a “mix between American Horror Stories and Stranger Things.” “Derry is really messed up, that first episode was kinda frightening,” added a review. Blending fandoms, a fan account on X added that Pennywise was a Boggart – a fictional character from the Harry Potter series. It transforms into something, the character fears the most.

Still in disbelief from what they witnessed, a user wrote, “I still haven’t gotten over the disbelief with what the first chapter of IT: Welcome To Derry leaves you with.”

On the other hand, some viewers also seemed unimpressed by the visuals. Calling them “horrendous,” they questioned, “Have we truly sunk this low ?? My goodness gracious I [would] rather watch the original IT and move on from this. I don’t think it’s for me.” While another negative comment added that IT: Welcome to Derry “disappoints.” “Rehashing It’s familiar terror with a lack of suspense and character depth, as it grapples with racism in 1960s Maine, ultimately failing to deliver a fresh take on Stephen King’s haunting legacy,” a review read.

As of now, with the season finale scheduled for December 2025, a Deadline report revealed that two more seasons are awaited. Each taking the timeline backwards, they will be prequels of one another.
