Baahubali: The Epic has made a blockbuster comeback on the big screen today, October 31. With fans raving about seeing Prabhas return, an interesting video resurfaced from SS Rajamouli‘s podcast. In conversation were Baahubali stars Rana Daggubati and Prabhas, recalling an incident ahead of Baahubali: The Beginning’s release.

Shooting to fame, Baahubali became a cult favourite among fans and also a massive box office success. Not only did it become the highest-grossing Telugu film of all time, but it was also India’s second-biggest film at the time with a Rs 600 crore box office collection. Reflecting on the release schedule, Daggubati revealed that Rajamouli had approached Dharma Productions’ Karan Johar, who managed the Hindi release for Baahubali, for advice.

Postpone it one week

The promotions for Baahubali were on, and the makers wanted to release the Hindi version, too. Daggubati recalled that Rajamouli said, “Speak to Karan Johar, we will release next week.” He then remarked with light laughter, “It doesn’t work in Hindi this way.”

Johar then advised, “Postpone, it’s just one week. There is another Hindi movie released on the same day,” Daggubati recalled. Prabhas then commented, “It wasn’t any other cinema, it was Salman Khan’s cinema!” as the guests erupted in laughter. Daggubati then revealed that Rajamouli even praised the Salman Khan film and expressed his belief in it.

However, as per the 2015 release timeline of both Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Baahubali: The Beginning, the advise was adhered to. Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan released on July 17, while Baahubali 1 rolled out on July 10, the one-week gap remained intact.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan vs Baahubali box office

More than a decade old, both films have become cult favourites. Giving a strong competition to one another, Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan collected nearly Rs 1000 crore at the worldwide box office, becoming one of Bollywood’s biggest films ever. On the other hand, Baahubali’s first part collected over Rs 1800 crore, despite an early release and gained sudden popularity in China and the US.
